How to play
- 1Type in the names and start. The deck lives inside the phone.
- 2A card comes up and you call whether the next one is higher or lower.
- 3Call it right and keep going; get it wrong and drink, or whatever you agreed on.
House rules
- DrinkingWhoever misses drinks and stays in. The fastest version, and nobody ends up watching from the side.
- PointsEach correct call scores one, a miss resets you to zero. First to ten, and suddenly people won't risk it even on a two.
- KnockoutMiss and you're out; the round carries on without you. Shorter, but the last card gets played with everyone watching.
Frequently asked questions
- How many players do you need for Higher or Lower?
- From 2 to 12. Fewer and it falls flat, more and it drags, though nobody is going to stop you trying.
- Do I have to download anything?
- No. Higher or Lower opens in your phone's browser and runs right there: nothing to install, nothing to sign up for.
- Is Higher or Lower free?
- Completely. Every card, every level and all six languages, with no account and no paid tier.
- Do we need a deck of cards?
- No. The cards are dealt on the phone, so you can play anywhere: a bar, the metro, a windy terrace.
- Can we play without alcohol?
- Yes. Swap the drink for whatever you like; the game only says who got it wrong.
